Structural graph layout for KeyLines

A new graph layout for seeing structure in your data

28 April 2012

Our new layout groups nodes which are structurally identical - i.e., have the same connections.

Before:

After:

The layout spaces nodes so the structure is easier to see, and uses the fact that your vision is good at spotting & matching shapes:

  • Nodes which are in the same group are laid out in a circle and placed close together.
  • Groups of two are laid out on top of each other.
  • Groups of three in a tight triangle, four in a diamond shape, etc.

This layout has been really effective on some of our data sets, so we're excited to see how our KeyLines users find it!
